Since Skinny Water has no calories, you might remember that our first promotion centered on offering no cost for a full tank of gas at LukOil – coincidently at the same time gas hit $4/gallon at the pumps. Well, our next promotion, which we launched this past week, offered a shopping cart full of groceries at no cost to five lucky Acme supermarket patrons.
It was a blast!
We couldn’t do the racing-through-the-store, supermarket sweepstakes approach for liability reasons, but we did create an alternate strategy. Every person who entered the Bala Cynwyd store starting around eight in the morning until 10:00 was given a number. Then when they checked out, if their magic number matched one of the five randomly selected numbers, whatever was in their shopping cart was free of charge! No cost to match the no calories in Skinny Water.
The first winner was an elderly lady who had only six items in her cart. She couldn’t believe she was a winner. The hoopla – cameras, interviews, attention. The five free cases of Skinny Water. And the free groceries!
And I couldn’t believe she only had enough groceries for a day’s worth of hunger. This was unacceptable.
So I mildly suggested that she needed more food to fuel her for a week. She smiled. We made a quick u-turn and headed toward the meat department. There, the butcher presented the lovely lady with a beautiful eye roast. Her reaction was worth whatever the Skinny Water promotion cost. Next, we headed up the vegetable isle where she selected bags of her favorite veggies. Then there was: Shrimp. Cookies. Bread. Condiments. Potatoes. Eggs. Milk. She got the hang of grabbing free food real fast. And the second time our winner returned to the checkout isle, her cart was overflowing with a feast of her favorites.
As an investor in Skinny Water and a spokesperson for the five flavors (three more are in development), I’d like to thank Acme supermarkets for not only allowing the entertaining promotion (I love giving away things for free), but also for helping put Skinny Water now on the national supermarket radar.
