It’s the holiday season and gift-buying is in full force.
If you’re like me and like to buy cool gifts for your friends and loved ones, I suggest you check out the following items that were part of my purchases this wonderful season.
Kindle. What can I say but the Kindle is coolest gift on the planet. Oprah recently gave it her Book-of-the-Month Club-like stamp of approval and, unfortunately, now Amazon - its exclusive retailer - is sold out with a 3-month waiting list. For those of you unfamiliar with the Kindle, it’s a wireless reading device. It’s like a little, light weight, stylish computer with a sharp, high-resolution screen that supposedly reads like a real newspaper. FYI, I recently downloaded Nelson DeMille’s The Gate House, Mark Frost’s The Match, and Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – all within a minute. I also have subscriptions to several blogs – like OhGizmo! - that are automatically downloaded daily.
Monogrammed Screwpull Black Nickel Wine Opener. I like my red wine and I love this cork-removing device. The Screwpull - an exclusive at Williams-Sonoma - is so easy to use that you wonder what the hell is inside to extract the cork without any effort. BTW, it has some kind of new rotational technology that reduces the process to one simple up-and-over maneuver. And it comes in a leather storage box. I can taste the Opus One already!
Brunton Solo. Whether your travels take you out in the woods or high in the skies, the Brunton Solo is perfect for making sure you don’t run out of power for your other electronic gadgets. It’s a small device - the size of a deck of cards - that can run or charge any USB compatible device (cellphone, PDA, digital camera, portable DVD player).
SwissFlash. The makers of the Swiss Army Knife, Victorinx, added a high-performance USB portable storage device to their little 2 ¼” knife version. The unit contains a tiny blade, nail file with screwdriver, scissors, key ring, pressurize ballpoint pen, and flashlight in addition to the 8GB memory module. Way cool.
Happy holidays!
