Skinny Goes to College
Last week I was involved in a brainstorming session at Skinny Water headquarters to help develop the game plan for Skinny Water’s new marketing initiative. You’re going to love this entertaining concept…and you’ll be able to follow along via the web.
Let’s begin with a rivalry between two hometown colleges. Then a squad of four or five students (one of which is a videographer) from each university is selected and competes in a challenge-loaded competition to win an outrageous spring break vacation. Plus, the students get paid a weekly stipend throughout the contest; and, hopefully, they learn a little something about the strategic marketing concepts (sampling, endorsement, event, viral, etc) within each challenge that they can ultimately apply in their future work environment.
We decided to start with a great rivalry in my hometown of Philadelphia. St. Joe’s versus Villanova. City versus suburbs. Big time Big Five rivals.
Later this month the campuses will be notified of this rare and exciting opportunity. The “Skinny Squads” will be selected. By the way, we chose a watering hole that students from both colleges frequent, which should make the application process at Brownies 23 East most memorable. The games will begin the first week of October and conclude around Thanksgiving.
The beauty of this collegiate competition is that, not only will Quaker Media be producing and filming the major event markers (Open Call, First meeting with SW executives, Winner announced), but the student videographers selected for both teams will capture the guerilla marketing conquests - and maybe a little more – for all to see! Think Apprentice meets Real World with a twist.
