Direct Measurements, Inc. (DMI) makes unique laboratory strain measurement equipment and field-ready prognostic solutions for maintenance environments. DMI's patented and patent-pending strain measurement and structural-health monitoring technology is robust and effective yet easy to implement and integrate into existing operations. DMI's products utilize embedded wire-free sensor technology that measures the "strain" or damage in mission-critical parts and components. This metric is vital to component life extension programs, and can be used to assess the “health” of material assets, thereby reducing unnecessary maintenance and improving the overall responsiveness of logistics support.
The DMI technology consists of two basic elements: (1) a wire-free "gage" that can be temporarily or permanently affixed to parts and equipment; and (2) a "strain reader" that reads strain/health data from the gage using DMI-developed software. The DMI gage is not only a strain-measurement and health-monitoring device, but also contains encoded ID information using proprietary barcode technology; a valuable and unique gage feature that serves as a 'license plate' for critical part inventory and unit identification. As part of its integrated solution, DMI has developed novel communications capabilities that allow DMI strain-reader data to be instantly accessible to any Internet-connected device, regardless of location.
Currently DMI is doing work for NAVAIR (Navy Air Systems Command), DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), the Australia DSTO, and Boeing.
